ORANGE BOWL BOYS
TOAST
I was told I needed to write three paragraphs on why I’m a Miami Hurricanes fan and why I do the Orange Bowl Boys podcast…So here is the requested Bio.
I come from the mean streets of West Hartford, Connecticut. It was there that I learned to dip Copenhagen, shoot dice, and use brass knuckles to get my way. In the early 80’s I became old enough to realize I needed to have a college football team. My state university did not have a D-1 program so I needed to find one, preferably without a basketball program so I would not have any rooting conflicts. At that time, there was a sudden newcomer on the national scene that was getting tv time in the northeast. I remember watching them beat Notre Dame 20-0 and my dad was cursing them…I was sold. Add the fact that they put their hoops team on ice years before, so I had no conflicts. I was a Miami Hurricanes football fan!
I moved to South Florida in the mid 1990’s so I could pursue my dream of being on the radio. It would also mark the start of my love affair with the Orange Bowl (RIP). I arrived at the same time that Butch took over and watched as he had to deal with sanctions before he built the greatest team of all-time. My first game at the OB was versus #3 FSU. We were ranked #6 and got rolled 34-16. Then I went to the VaTech game later in season and we lost again. I finally bagged my first OB win vs BC around Thanksgiving of that year. I was fortunate, being in radio, I was able to go to tons of games for free and I took advantage of that.
As years passed, podcasting became a thing and my radio employer at the time required all of us who were on-air to start a podcast. I gave it some thought, called a couple buddies and the Orange Bowl Boys were born! First show was for the Miami vs LSU game at Jerry’s World…we did not think LSU was very good…
