Why the Canes? Well, why not. A born and raised South Floridian, Scoop grew up in the HeyDay of the Miami Hurricanes. I was 8 when “we” won our first Natty in 1983. Needless to say, like any other kid who played or watched football in South Florida, I was HOOKED. You’ve seen the 30 for 30 films. I Lived it. All of it. And I couldn’t have had a better time growing up, bleeding Orange and Green.

I attended that University of South Florida for college (Go Bulls). In Fall of 1997, during my last semester in school, the Bulls played their first football game at the Old Sombrero in Tampa. Jim Leavitt was the head coach and we won 80-3. Pretty great way to bid farewell.
During my college years, the Canes were hit with sanctions. Sports Illustrated wanted the program to be shuttered. The nation was celebrating the downfall of the U. All to be resurrected by Butch Davis. The assemblance of the Greatest teams ever created led to the Canes 5th National Championship in 2001, and all seemed right in the world again. Until Terry Porter, of course.

It was October 1, 2005. The Test. The Bulls and Canes programs were meeting for the first time. I was torn. It was a long week of emotions leading up that game. Back then, these games were everything. It was at home for Miami. I didn’t go. I couldn’t go. I sat on my couch in a plain black shirt. I sat unbiased.

Tyrone Moss. He’s the guy. Within the first 15 minutes, the uncertainty, the unsureness of where my heart would fall was over. In retrospect, it was never really in question. Maybe it was a sign of respect and loyalty for my alma mater. But that was over. IT WAS ALL CANES, ALL THE TIME.

8 Years ago, our good friend Toast, asked if we would like to do a Miami Hurricanes podcast. Truly one of the greatest questions I have ever been asked. I jumped at the opportunity to chat with some of my best friends about the sports team I love the most. It has been a special ride. And the way it’s trending, I don’t think it will be over anytime soon!
